The honest buyer's guide

What to look for in textured stickers

Textured stickers are suddenly everywhere, from therapy offices to store shelves. We're thrilled: we've been making them since 2021, and more people discovering texture is good for everyone. But not all textured stickers are made the same way, and the differences matter once fingers start rubbing. Here are the five things to check before you buy, from the family that started it all.

First: what are textured stickers?

Textured stickers are stickers with a raised, touchable surface designed for calming sensory input. Instead of just looking good, they give restless fingers a quiet, repeatable place to go: on a laptop, a water bottle, a desk, or a badge. The best ones use tiny rounded bumps that are gentle enough for all-day rubbing and durable enough to survive it.

The 5 things to check before you buy

Whether you're buying one pack for your desk or five hundred for your organization, these five questions separate stickers that last from stickers that peel.

  1. How is the texture made?

This is the single biggest difference between textured stickers, and you usually can't see it in a photo. Most versions on store shelves start with a regular printed sticker, then add a textured coating or laminate over the top. That layer is bonded on, so hundreds of rubs a day work at it until it clouds, peels, or flakes. The other way is ours: the design is printed directly into a material that already has tiny rounded bumps. There is no layer to peel, because the texture IS the sticker.

Ask before you buy: "Is the texture a coating on top, or is the design printed into a textured material?"

  2. Is it gentle and safe for skin?

Sensory stickers get touched more than any other sticker on earth, often by the most sensitive fingers in the family. Look for latex-free materials, no sharp or gritty surface, and bumps that stay gentle after weeks of daily use. Sensory tools have to be comfortable for the heaviest users, not just the average ones.

Ask before you buy: "Is it latex-free, and does the surface stay gentle after heavy daily use?"

  3. Will it survive daily rubbing (and washing)?

A decorative sticker gets touched once, at application. A sensory sticker gets rubbed hundreds of times a day, and it lives on water bottles that get washed, laptops that ride in backpacks, and badges that clip on and off. Durability isn't a bonus feature here, it's the whole product. Printed-in texture holds up because there's nothing layered on top to fail.

Ask before you buy: "What does this sticker look like after a month of daily rubbing and washing?"

  4. Who makes it, and where?

Many textured stickers are mass produced overseas with nobody to call when something's wrong. We're a family in Washington, Utah. We developed this material for our own kids, we've printed every order ourselves since 2021, and we answer our own emails (usually it's Amber). When you're ordering for a whole school or clinic, that difference shows up fast.

Ask before you buy: "If something's wrong with my order, who fixes it?"

  5. Can it carry your logo or message?

Off-the-shelf packs come as-is. If the stickers are for your organization, classroom, clinic, or event, look for a printer who can put your brand on the texture. We print custom textured stickers from just 50 pieces, send free mock-ups before you pay anything, and revise until you love it.

Ask before you buy: "Can I get this customized with our design, and what's the minimum order?"

Honestly? A store-shelf pack is a fine, inexpensive way to try the idea, and if it helps someone you love, we're genuinely glad it exists. But when the stickers are for your organization, your classroom, your patients, or your brand, the five checks above start to matter a lot. That's the moment we're built for.

Quick answers

What are textured stickers?

Textured stickers are stickers with a raised, touchable surface of tiny rounded bumps, designed for calming sensory input. Instead of just looking good, they give restless fingers a quiet, repeatable place to go. The original custom textured stickers have been printed by our family, The Sticker Family, in Washington, Utah since 2021.

What's the difference between coated texture and printed-in texture?

Coated texture is a textured layer or laminate bonded over a regular printed sticker; with heavy daily rubbing that layer can cloud, peel, or flake. Printed-in texture means the design is printed directly into a material that already has tiny rounded bumps, so there's no layer to fail. Printed-in texture is what we make at Textured Stickers.

Are store-bought textured stickers any good?

Some are a fine, inexpensive way to try the concept. Before buying, check five things: how the texture is made, the materials, the durability, where it's made, and whether it can be customized. For daily sensory use or anything carrying your organization's name, printed-in texture is worth it.

Are textured stickers safe for kids?

Ours are latex-free, water safe, and gentle enough for all-day rubbing. We designed the material with our own kids, who are on the autism spectrum. As with any small item, we recommend adult supervision for very young children.

What's the minimum order for custom textured stickers?

Just 50 pieces per design at Textured Stickers, and we send free digital mock-ups before you pay anything, with unlimited revisions until you love it. Bulk pricing starts around $0.70 per sticker at higher quantities.

Who invented textured sensory stickers?

Our family. Amber spent two years developing the material for her own kids and launched Textured Stickers in Washington, Utah in 2021, years before textured stickers reached big-box store shelves. We remain America's only bulk printer of custom textured sensory stickers.
